But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24
Proverbs 18:24
Good Sunday Morning!
The other day I was out walking around our property and saw this group of four buck deer across the street, all hanging out together. Most of the time the bucks are loners and I rarely see any close to others, much less four of them!
The scene brought me to this bible verse in proverbs. The first part of the verse talks about real friends and not being too hasty to make friends. If you are just making friends to have a clique, you may end up harming yourself spiritually. A good friend deserves good friendship reciprocated. Striving to be a good and faithful friend can bring the blessings of a friendship that even a sibling friendship may not match. My study notes state that the phrase “closer than a brother” alludes to Abraham who was close to God and referred to as a friend of God. We know Abraham trusted God, loved God, and was a faithful servant. This also makes me think about Jesus Christ, who is not only our Lord but also our Supreme friend, in that He loves us deeply and gave His life for us.
I hope that my friends and family know that I love them in the Lord and care about them as I pray for the Lord’s protection and provision in their lives.
May your week have blessings and twinkling episodes in solid friendships.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for friends that pray for me and care about me. I ask You to be with them wherever they go, as You have promised us that You are with us. Even in circumstances that prevent me from the gatherings, I pray that You would touch the far away friendships and comfort everyone in these alliances that the Spirit has brought together. In the name of Jesus, our Lord, I pray. Amen.
