Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I
meditate on Your wonderful works.
Psalm 119:27
Good Sunday morning, folks!
I was looking in my archives for an image for today’s devotional (since this is the time of year when there is not much to photograph) and saw this landscape photo from a few years ago. It is part of a farm on a country road near us. The day was foggy and in the Fall season with the hay grass green and golden against the damp looking scene. That group of big oak trees in the middle of the pasture drew my eye. As I looked at this nature landscape, I thought it looked like a meditative and peaceful scene, and I would have loved to sit under those trees on that day. This bible verse from Psalm 119 seemed to fit the feeling.
The precepts of God, (meaning commandments or statutes) are found in our bibles as the word of God. When reading and praying about the truths the Lord laid out for our living, it gives me a sense of peace. We get understanding and wisdom for our life and we can be sure of the Lord’s truths to sustain us in all kinds of situations. The things happening in this world can get me down and seem gloomy, even though I try to avoid being a news junkie! I must make a concerted effort to work on going to my bible instead of the news channel. This year I have been memorizing certain bible verses, and I recite them in the mornings before my bible reading – it takes me a long time to memorize even one verse but I am glad it helps me to remember that God is the Supreme creator and is in control of His wonderful works in all the universe. I love to reflect on the Lord’s grace and mercy on me, and I am so very grateful that He made a place for me in His kingdom of heaven.
May your week be filled with recognizing God’s wonderful works around you and for meditating on His wise words in your bibles.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear God in heaven, may the words in this devotional touch
the souls of those reading it and will You please bless them as this new week
enfolds in their lives.
